Designlab: Design 101

Designlab
In October 2020, I took part in Designlab's Design 101 course. The course is short but intensive, taking you through design essentials, such as typography, visual hierarchy and layout. You are given a choice of design brief at the start of the course. I chose to design a web landing page about a place, partly to take on the challenge of coming up with a cohesive design which would work across three different screen sizes.
My initial response to the brief laid out my key considerations before I started the process of designing the landing page
The next step was considering details such as the typography, logo, and colour scheme. I opted for bright, vivid colours on the grounds that my target audience was young and adventurous.
When coming up with my final designs, I opted for an image-led landing page, in keeping with the 'aspirational' look and feel I was aiming to create with the design.

Colour contrast was a key consideration as the font I'd used was relatively delicate. I aimed to keep the design clean, as the landing page was heavy on imagery and I didn't want to detract from the images.
Ensuring the design worked on screen as well as on an overall landing page was important. With three different sizes to produce, keeping elements like the logo, header and search bar relatively simple was key.
